welcome asher. {a newborn session}

To say that I “really liked” this session would be a drastic understatement.  It’s more like, if you just heard a noise, it was the sound of my heart exploding because it could not contain my love for this shoot.  Dramatic, I know.  (It has been one of those days.)  I was working on this session, and I drug favorites to my blog folder and when I realized I was at 50, I knew there was a problem.  Sifting through these to figure out “which ones, which ones” was tough.   But here is a sampling of what I finally chose.

I came to photograph Asher when he was 2 and a half weeks old.  He was only a little over 6 lbs. when he was born, so he was still a bit of a peanut….but ALERT.  He would look right in my camera, and when he would start to drift off to sleep, my shutter would make him peek open his eyes…almost like he was afraid he was going to miss something!  If you frequent my blog then you may know this beautiful family.  The last session they did with us was this past summer and you can find it HERE.

Sweet little Asher!

Beautiful Mama, my friend Jessica.

Two big sisters are better than one!  (Asher may beg to differ.) :)

Resting with Mama…

AND back up again!! Having some bonding time with Daddy.

Love this photo.

A few sessions back with this family I told you the story of Micheal (the Dad) having a terrible accident and falling 25 ft. from a ladder.  He was badly hurt (as you can imagine) and was in the hospital for months dealing with surgeries and therapy. GRACE is the word that comes to mind.  Without the grace of God, Michael would not be here, and therefore Asher would not as well.  Because of this, it was very important to them to show the scar on Micheal’s arm.   I absolutely agree.

if you have the urge to grab your screen to kiss this sweet little face, calm down and breathe deeply…repeat.

And back to sleep again.

One of my favorites.

This may be one of my most favorite family moments I have ever captured.  It makes me want to have a newborn again, to have someone come take pictures like this of us. :)  It is just so warm, cozy, and real.

I left that day with a major love for a new little man, and a yearning in my womb.  The second part went away as soon as I walked into my own house. :)  This session also reminded me of what an honor it is to be invited into someone’s home, in their intimate space, to capture the beauty of LIFE.  Thanks you guys.

love,  jess

Alex - The Europeans did it *yeah* ;-)

uncle j + the kids {just for fun}

A few posts ago I mentioned how Brett’s brother came to town to visit us for a few days.  While he was visiting, he was working on his year end music compilation that he makes every year.  He was trying to figure out what photos to use on the case, and after we talked about doing a photo shoot with the kids, he thought that it would work perfect for his title which is, “come back home.”  Not that he plans to come back home, he just enjoys teasing us about it all the time. :)

So we did a quick shoot one evening with him and the kids, and just had fun.  Here is the CD case and what it looked like…He had it professionally printed up and I thought it looked downright purdy.

The front.

The back with the track titles…. :)

The inside shot.

And of course I had to share the photos from the shoot.

My three babies.  Gabe was in Brett’s arms because it was COLD outside.

But we got him in for a shot.

;)  you think they like their uncle?  maybe a little?

Adin is kinda Uncle J crazy.

This so cracks me up. They are making the EXACT face too.

1.) We have booked our tickets to the Los Angeles area for early March and are doing a limited amount of photo sessions!! If you would like to inquire about doing any type of session, please email us at info@studio3z.com.

2.) Thank you to everyone that voted in our “Favorites from 2008.”  The contest is officially closed. :)  I will post later TONIGHT with the results!!! If you are a winner, please tell me your preference on your 8×10.

See you in a few (after I get this sweet baby to bed).

January 23, 2009 - 6:20 pm

Erin - well, here goes.
#3 love.
-main reason, it made me laugh and there are more than just the initial words on the wall. there is added intereste with the couple doing something rather than being stoic :)
#2 marriage

January 24, 2009 - 12:46 am

holly rouse - number one love because i like the processing you used–really enhances the emotion of the shot. and number one marriage because it’s just so awwwwwwwwwesome and full of emotion and love and i just LOVE it. :)

January 24, 2009 - 1:41 am

Megan - I couldn’t decided between #7 and # 10 love and then I realized it’s the same couple….sexy!!! #7 tops it all for me…I would LOVE to have a picture of my man and I like that!!

January 24, 2009 - 9:18 pm

julia - #9 in “Love” is absolutely amazing because jess captured the light in such a fabulous way. With the sun so bright and gleaming, it reminds me of “that scene” at the end of a romantic movie where the two characters are declaring their love – que dramatic music, sun sets, they kiss, end scene. Love it! #9 in the marriage section is my other pick. the fall colors are outstanding, and they work so well with the bride’s fur, giving the image an almost vintage quality, plus it shows the true emotion of the day we had, which was so serene, happy, and blessed!

January 24, 2009 - 10:38 pm

Alex - #3 LOVE
#11 MARRIAGE (I always loved that pic!)

January 25, 2009 - 1:13 am

Tina Louise - #8 Marriage – all the way beacause the way the light and the rays of light are flowing out from behind and through the couple. Sweet!

January 25, 2009 - 1:06 pm

Jen - Love #7: There’s no denying that these two are in love. The picture says it all and captures the heart of their relationship. Plus they’re hott! Marriage #8: It is just plain beautiful! And it captures the passion and gentleness of newlyweds. (And if we had to pick our favorite matron of honor, I’d have to go with that short-haired blonde chick in the very last picture!)

January 25, 2009 - 11:41 pm

Katelyn - #1 Love: I love how you captured them laughing and looking at each, having fun. I love the closeness of the shot.
#1 Marriage: Again the closeness and how affectionate the couple is, the ring on her hand near the middle of photograph.

January 27, 2009 - 2:49 pm

brandy - love them all. inspiring composition! makes me wanna shoot something. pictures. :)

January 27, 2009 - 2:50 pm

Renotta King - Am I too late?! Since you haven’t posted the winner yet, hopefully you’ve extended the deadline(?) #1 in Love – since she’s my daughter and I know her, I can personally attest that her inner beauty is bursting forth and when I saw this picture I was totally convinced that the love between she and Andy was the “real deal”.
#8 in the Marriage category (of course my bias is coming through again!) I love the sunset shining through as a benediction between them. It was a lovely closure to the end of a perfect day.

January 27, 2009 - 3:14 pm

Adrienne - i love number 8!!!!!! its beautiful…. it makes me want to get married one day.

January 27, 2009 - 3:16 pm

Adrienne - oh… my number 8 vote was for marriage…. my love vote goes to number one!!!

January 27, 2009 - 9:06 pm

Tony - Great wedding, fantastic images! I miss Cincy. I lived there for 6 years. I loved the old charm it has and all the great locations. I just wanted to tell you I love the image with the rings ad the grapes, love the color and the texture of the wood is amazing!. Keep up the great work.
