happy birthday {to my daddy}

I wouldn’t be who I am today without this man.  My Dad, William Wallace.  (Really, that is his name.)

The first man in my life, to hold and love me.  Thank you for teaching me the importance of creative expression, about art, about history, about thinking outside of the box.  Thank you for teaching all your kids about life, about God, about God’s creation and how to respect it. Thank you for teaching us the importance of music, and how it affects our lives.  Thank you for teaching me how to fire a gun, how to run, how to cast and reel, how to throw a perfect free throw and layup, and for the reward of taking me on a walk to the creek when I did.  The moments in my life where you have told me you are proud of me, I will cherish always- and the moments where I have fallen short and have disappointed you, I will never forget.

I thank God for you and your 65 years.  I am thankful for you voice, that sang me to sleep when I was a baby, and sang the words to my card last night at dinner.:)  Thank you for your goofy side, which I so gladly inherited. Thank you for being a support to me, even during times you may not have wanted to.   You are my Daddy, and I love and appreciate you.

Any idea where my love of photography comes from?

Only my Dad can pull off such a look as this super rad suit below. :)  And the painting on the wall by my crib was painted by him.

Oh, and thank you for the scanner-without it I would not have been able to post these photos!!!

LOVE YOU DADDY!  Sorry this comes a few hours late. :)

William Wallace - Dear Jessie, You are killing me softly with your kind words.I always loved my babies but unlike many, I could not wait for you to grow up so you could be my friend. Now that you are an adult,I am so blessed to call you a friend. However, you are still uniquely my little girl and I would die for you.So fly on blythe spirit, spreading your love and beauty where you may and your father will remain in the place where he has been for some time(a place called quiety proud). Love Dad

A daddy’s love is unmatched, unprecedented, and oh so deeply cherished.

Thanks for sharing, Jessica. Brought tears to my eyes.

Happy birthday, Mr. Wallace :)

January 23, 2009 - 3:02 pm

gina@kiwistreetstudios - what a emotionally heartwarming post. i am a daddy’s girl and i know what your words mean. i lost my dad 6 years ago, but all he was, said and did is still with me in my heart. i do miss him being right here even though he is always right here. the blessings live on.

some favorites of 2008 {children and families}

Oh my goodness, I didn’t realize how fun this would be!!  All I have to say is, it has been SO incredibly hard to choose between the wonderful families and children we have had the pleasure of documenting this year.  I am so glad it is you and not me that has to vote for ONE photo!  Choosing a few was HARRRD. ;)   In case you did not read the previous post, we are having a friendly competition!  Simply choose your favorite photo-this round you may choose ONE family + ONE child photo, so you get to PICK 2 PHOTOS! In the comment box, tell me the name and number and WHY you are voting for that particular photo.  If you don’t tell me why you are choosing, your vote is not counted. (Did I mention how fun this is that I get to make the rules??) The winner who receives the most votes will receive a complementary 8X10 from studio3z!!

Also, the competition is still on in the previous post {Seniors+Portraits} because it seems we are at a tie!  I will close that one tomorrow morning. :)

Below are some very wonderful people….some we have known, some we just met this year.  Each one in their own way has touched our lives.

Now get to voting! :)   Voting for this round will close on Wednesday at NOON.

Brett - Adam…did you mean that little Luke was rad or that girl striking the ninja pose… It’s cool if you think Luke is rad, b/c he is, but it wasn’t the first thing that came to my mind :-) Thought you might have put the number with the pic above #3 rather than below it on accident…

January 19, 2009 - 4:33 pm

rebecky - child vote-#1 leyla because her faces are the best and she is a doll. family vote is the C family not sure the number, I like this one because the girls are being cute together and the whole family is enjoying them. Chad - I really like the overall look of photograph #4. However, I am choosing #1 because the pensive look on Leyla’s face succeeds in evoking the most emotion (which art should do, right?). It may also have something to do with the fact that she is my little girl.

Nicole - They are all wonderful photo’s but my vote will go to the S family.

January 20, 2009 - 11:42 am

Bethany - #9 Grace — because the photo is both a playful and sophisticated view of a beautiful young woman.

#10 The W Family — this captures the love of parents beautifully.

January 20, 2009 - 12:36 pm

Konul - I have been trying to see the pictures since yesterday but for some reason only thing I see is Leyla’s picture and the text above the pictures. So I am voting without seeing all the pictures…
Leyla – my firstborn, this picture brings calmness and sadness to me at the same time. It reminds me of myself…

Even though I don’t know which picture of Zazi you are using, I read someone’s comment about his blue eyes. He is my blue-eye mini Chad. Zazi changed a lot since you took those pictures but I am sure his picture is still the best 6-month old boy picture you took :) .

January 20, 2009 - 3:40 pm

gina@kiwistreetstudios - omg! ALL of them because they are ALL awesome.

January 16, 2009 - 4:25 pm

Erin - Tuff choice, there all beautiful.

Since I know her in person, I know that it is so her, she doesn’t need to pose for the camera. January 18, 2009 - 6:22 am

melissa - I vote for #5 – Kaylie because I think she’s the most amazing person on the planet and also because this photo is amazing. It is so soft and honest and it looks as if you just caught her turning from a reflective moment.

Also, just want to say that #3 – Music Man is incredible!

January 18, 2009 - 12:27 pm

Dennis Eernisse - I goggled The Wading Girl, which lead me to Billy Wallace, which linked me to your website, finally landing me here to the picture of Dana, my firstborn carrying her firstborn. What a beatific pic of my Dana. Today is 9-21-09, two days before Dana’s due date for her second child’s birth.

our happy new year. {in card form}

Each year we send out New Year’s cards.  Last year was our first year with 4 kids, and when I saw a cool card that folded accordion style with 4 spaces on each side, I knew it would be great for our family.  This year I contemplated doing a different style card just to change things up, but in the end we figured out that the card style we chose last year was THE BEST, and we better just stick to that. :)

Brett’s brother came into town from Los Angeles and surprised us on December 24th.  As I was washing dishes from dinner he called and as we were chatting, he asked if I could come open the garage door.  He does this all the time, and yet each time he still manages to completely surprise us.  He stayed in town for a week and a half and we all had fun. (Many more photos coming from the fun we had…)  During his stay we asked him to help us take photos for our New Year’s card, and then we got the oddest day where it was 70 degrees out.  PERFECT!  I did my usual….got the kids up from nap and without any thought to outfits, matching, etc. dressed them in something that was “them” and hoped for the best.  (Works for me, but not really recommended.:)  We headed out to my parents field, and went crazy for about 15 minutes.  Here are of few of the treasures we came up with….some for our card, and some extras.

Love this one of all of us…

The front of our card shot:

Gabriel is just precious.

The boys with their Uncle J.

Adin, caught in a moment of stillness.  I LOVE this.

My sweet girl.  Just recently it is beginning to hit me how big she is getting.

My funny and charming boy Riah.:)  His smile lights up any room he enters.

I seriously want to eat this child.  My baby.

Adin’s new trick he learned.  I almost used this for the card….but didn’t.

Our three boys.  These cute little hats were made by my sister-in-law!  She makes and sells some ADORABLE stuff….her info will be coming soon. :)

Uncle Jason with his babies.  I love how much he loves them.  I also love Adin’s face in this.

The front of the card…..

Opened up on one side….

And the other side, featuring all four beautiful babies. :)

Thanks for viewing!  And once again Happy 2009 from our home to yours. :)

January 13, 2009 - 8:35 pm

gina@kiwistreetstudios - how beautiful is this? you can see the love and togetherness between all of you. simply perfect.
jess, i would love to know where your card (template) came from:)

January 13, 2009 - 11:45 pm

holly rouse - a little happy new year note of my own to some of my favorite people…

a is such a clown. but such a silly, kind boy. i love the stories he tells me. i love his little jokes. i love his sense of humor. i think he is just so COOL. i do. i think he’s much cooler than i was at his age–probably cooler than me, in general.

priya…i wish we were the same age so i could be her best friend. i admire her so much. such a happy, sweet girl. i look up to her for her mini mama talents too. i just love her so much. it’s funny that i look up to a girl so much younger than me. but she is truly someone whose example you should follow.

ri…what can i say? he has my heart. he has enough charm and light in his heart to do achieve every dream that comes into his mind over the years.

gabey…i have an impulse to eat him as well at times. i have never seen a more beautiful little boy in my entire life. he is adorableness to the max. his smile and his little teeth…i melt.

mama…i admire her so much for EVERYTHING she does. for her heart. for her love. for her sense of humor. for the hardships she has turned into victories. mama j is my forever friend. i am so blessed to call her my friend. she encourages me to follow my dreams not only with her words, but with her actions, and with the way she lives her life. i am so blessed to have such a good influence in my life.

baba…what can i say about brett? i love the way the boys look up to him. i love how all of his babies tell me stories about their mama and baba and how much they love their family. i love baba’s stories about his life. i love his friendliness. and in general, i love how he is completely him–no one else.

basically, i love the z’s. i am blessed that they have come into my life.

January 13, 2009 - 11:46 pm

holly rouse - ps: sorry that ended up to be one long paragraph. i put line breaks in but they didn’t show up, obviously

January 14, 2009 - 12:59 am
