You may have seen this already, and I have been wanting to post this artistic endeavor for a while now.  The story goes something like this….adoring (and unemployed) fan creates a FANTASTIC video for a Death Cab for Cutie song.  He plans it out, and through a mixture of many many still photographs and video, he creates a wonderful piece.

People notice it.  People love it.

Death Cab notices it. Death Cab makes it their official video for their song, “Little Bribes.”

Fan is happy.  Fan now works. 

Moral of the story: BE CREATIVE, and show it!  You may be surprised who takes note.

So, I just wanted to tell you that this blog is going to be SLAMMED and smacked-down with some goodness very soon!!  Be on the watch! 

The main highlight next week will be our little guy who is turning 2!!  I can hardly believe it, nor do I want to, but he is growing up.  BOO!

Here he is playing his game with Baba where he balances on him, and then falls like a tree, flat down on the bed….Please ignore our messy bedroom, and the fact that my husband is in his underwear.  (life)

In mid-March a local college called, “The College of Mt. St. Joseph” held the inauguration of their 6th college president,  Dr. Anthony J. Aretz, Ph.D.  It was a big ordeal, and we were very honored to have a part in the celebration.

We don’t normally show much of our commercial and editorial work we do, but I thought this would be something fun to show.  Our work made it on the cover of “The Mount News,” (the college’s magazine) and it went out in the mail this week, so I thought this was the perfect time to post.

They had many alumni come back, with a representative for almost each graduating class all the way back to the class of 1938!  Here are the alums getting their appropriate years.

This is also the photo that was chosen for the cover of the college’s magazine.    I think it is cute.

Agnes Devaney Fogarty, (left) is 91 years young, and has witnessed all 6 presidents at The Mount.

Then the delegates marched over to the auditorium for the ceremony.

Their were many family, friends, alumni, and of course current students in attendance.  This is The Mount’s football team.

And this is the new president, Dr. Tony Aretz.

I constantly keep a mental list of shoots that I would like to do, and it probably changes daily.  One thing that has been on the list for a while is a night shoot.  I wanted a good challenge-just my camera + good lenses, no flash, and only using available light when found (because the whole shoot was new territory).  That is exactly what we did for this, minus 2 photos taken inside Elijah’s house.

Meet Jason and Elijah of {vinegar + oil}.  They are DJ’s, and pretty rad ones at that.

I feel like I need to apologize ahead of time for their hotness…It’s not their fault.  They really can’t help it.

Yesterday was one of those days, you know the kind where you want to run and jump back in bed? Well, we started off the morning by getting up early for church because we wanted to get there a few minutes early…I always put Gabriel down for a nap for a little while and wake him up when we walk out the door. We got to church and looked around wondering what was going on? Where is everyone?? WE FORGOT TO SET OUR CLOCKS BACK. Oh JOY. We could have slept longer and our baby could have gotten his full nap and not be so cranky. If you are a planner then you will completely understand when I say, I felt like a failure. How could I forget?? I was mad….at myself. I had hurried us all that morning, and now we had an hour and 15 minutes to kill before church. Anyhow, I remained in a pretty grumpy mood until our shoot yesterday afternoon which brightened my mood so quickly, I forgot I had a bad day at all.

This was Gabe yesterday having fun while we did a session of some friends. He kept saying, “ball” and throwing all the mini-pumpkins.

Today I woke to the FedEx dude who was REALLY early, but he brought me a new friend, so I quickly forgave him.

Isn’t she pretty? What should I name her??

I have wanted a laptop for so long. It will be so nice to be able to leave my little office area and take it to be outside with the kids, or take it along places instead of being tied to a desktop. I know, you probably think I am ancient.

In other news, Brett had the pleasure of going to a recent Libertarian Party rally to hear their presidential candidate Bob Barr speak. I couldn’t get a sitter so I stayed home.   If you haven’t heard of him you should check out his website at www.bobbarr2008.com. Did you think we were only unconventional in our picture taking??  Oh, think again.    Brett has done some volunteer work for the Libertarian Party of Ohio, and in the past helped run the LPO website. Here are a few shots he got down on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.

4 things I did today

1. Woke up from a not so good night of sleep at 7:00, went downstairs and made breakfast for my family, kissed the hubby off to work, began returning emails.  (my usual morning)

2. Did school with the kiddos.

3. Went to Ikea to scope out some new cabinet handles for my newly painted kitchen cabinets.  Now I’m more confused than ever….but I picked up a super rad tropical plant for the living room.

4. Make some tea, put kids down for “quiet time” and I am getting ready to read some bible.  Now that I wrote it, I have to or I am a liar.

4 things on my to do list

1. Figure out how to balance the ever growing problem of life and all that it entails….home schooling, family, home business, organization, house cleaning, laundry, bills, etc.  (I think this will remain on my “to do” until I am an empty-nester.)

2. Wrap my nephew’s birthday present for his party tonight.

3.Find out some good junior biographies to read to the kids for history.  I am horrible at taking the time to read to the kiddos.  I am way too ADD.  I need to get a few books soon to get me on the right path.

4. Figure out how to get the basement painted for our studio, the outside windows stripped/painted/caulked before winter, and clean out the garage that we were supposed to do last spring.  (Maybe I need to change this to: “Hire someone to help with odd jobs around the house so Mama don’t go insane.”)

4 of my guiltiest pleasures

1. Chocolate in any form.  But the darker, the better.  I also love ghetto desserts…like those fake brownies you get a a gas station.  Little Debbie’s are so nasty, but OHHHH so stinkin good.  (Brett is gagging right now.)

2. Music.  I could get lost for hours and have trouble coming back.  I love exploring new people/new tunes all over the web.  I am super fortunate enough to have a sister, brother, and two brother-in-laws who are psycho obsessed with finding new music.  Since I don’t have as much time (imagine that), they do a lot of the work for me…and I am never without new tunes. Never.

3.  HGTV.  I don’t have cable but if I am around it, I am nearly glued to this station.  I want to have my own show.  Kind of like a, “What Not to Wear,” but about home decor. 

4. Poetry. Reading and writing it, although I seldom have/make time to do so anymore.

4 random facts about me

1. About my looks: I have a dent on the side of my nose…I call it “character”.  My dad is a dentist.  I could have free veneers, or a plastered Hollywood smile, but I’m cool with the mouth God gave me. (Don’t think I haven’t been tempted!)  I am missing a knuckle on my left hand.  No joke.

2. I was always a bit obsessed with Winona Ryder.  When I was 13 I wanted to be just like her in “Beetle Juice.”  I loved how she always wore black funky outfits. I still laugh every time I put my ninja suit on to shoot a wedding. I never thought I would live out that dream.  I like it. 

3. If I wasn’t a photographer I would have loved to gotten into home interior design.  My brain hurts (in a good way) when I pour over my design magazines.

4. Brett and I were in a wreck 10 years ago this month. We were dating then.  We were crazy lucky to walk away from it.  I think God may have had some plans for these little lives of ours.  I’m quite happy to be here.

We have a hot tub on our back deck, and since we live on a hill we get some major wind gusts ripping through.  The previous owners decide when they put the hot tub in, to also put up a wind shield behind it made of plexy glass.  It does a great job of stopping the wind, but also does a great job of stopping birds.  (You would think with how filthy it is, they would see it!  I purposefully DO NOT clean it.) We realized after the bird sat there for a while that he most likely had hit the glass and was injured or stunned.

Brett started taking pictures and he kept getting closer, and closer, and closer. I quickly reminded him that those suckers are fast, and could jump up and claw his eyeball out if he wanted too. Then I went inside to look him up in the internet to see exactly what he was. He is a Hawk (Falcon’s I guess are endangered-I didn’t know). My kids see him flying around all the time, and earlier that same day they were outside doing hawk calls. Call me crazy, but I think this guy was swooping down to check things out.  Kinda creepy.  Kinda cool.

So, we didn’t know what to do and he sat there like an hour and we had to leave for our shoot. We said that we would call the animal services if it was still there when we got back. Brett’s Mom was watching the kids while we were gone, and she said about 2 hours later that it just took off. We were happy he moved on.

Very interesting visitor indeed. Our first official animal photo shoot.
