like our blog?

We receive numerous emails each week about our blog.  I have been answering everyone until recently when it has gotten too overwhelming to keep up.  I am redeeming my guilty conscious by posting some FAQ’s.  We are very happy to share that we have a ProPhoto Blog, and WE LOVE IT.  About a year ago, I was on the search for the right blog, as my little blogger just wasn’t cutting it.  I was ready to show the BIG pictures.  I had plenty of blogs I admired, but after investigating found out they cost around $2000-$3000!  Ummmm….not really gonna work with this gal.  “Guess I’m sticking to blogger,” I thought…until I happened upon a new sleek blog.  After inquiring, I was led to ProPhoto, and it was love at first sight!!  Not only because of the HUGE photos, the AMAZINGLY easy customization, but the low price tag was the sealing of the deal. :)  (How’s $179 compared to 2K?)

I have gotten to know Jared a little bit from ProPhoto, and I think he is just amazing for creating this option for photographers who can’t afford to hire a “designer” for their blogs.  He provides fantastic tutorials that explain everything you can imagine and more, in detail.

ProPhoto was kind enough to feature us on their gallery page as well!  Click HERE to see. :)

Here are a few questions I get asked often, with my answers:

Do you like your ProPhoto blog?

Ummm, read above.  But HECK YES would be the quick answer.

Is it really that easy to customize?

YES.  Jared just released a new version that just knocked everyone’s socks off.  He made it extremely easy for the non-tech savvy folks (like myself).  You can literally customize it to look completely different from everyone else out there.

Did you choose the “Do-It Yourself” package, or the Handheld Package?”

I chose the “Do-It Yourself,” and I really found almost every aspect simple.  When I had trouble on something, I simply watched the tutorials provided by Jared.

Can you tell me where you got your super cool background?

Well, no.  I found it literally years ago, but the best place to begin looking is google.  Type in a phrase of what you are looking for, “brown polka dot repeating pattern,” and go to images.  Most likely you will get  a variety of stock photography sites.  Just make sure you don’t steal!  (We don’t like people who steal!)

After all of this, if you are interested in purchasing the ProPhoto theme for your blog, click HERE to purchase one!  If you use my code: STUDIO3Z232 you will get $10 OFF as well!!!

If you have more questions, please leave them in the comment box below.  I will answer it there, so others can see them as well.

Hope this helps.  :)

Randy - Hi Jess-
Thanks for all the information. I’m about ready to purchase a ProPhoto blog – been doing research and looking at the various “customer showcase” blogs built using PF. I love your blog and had one more question for you – a simple one I hope.

Which of the “default layouts” did you purchase to use as a baseline for your blog? There are six of them. Sounds like no matter which one I choose, the customization options are plentiful. I cannot look at your blog and ascertain which template you started with (a good sign that you’ve really done some nice customizing). If you could let me know which template you started with, and/or just say it doesn’t really matter because I can customize any of them the way I want to, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million! -randy

Liz Schneider@ Ravenlight Studio Photography - The sentence below, inside the blog code, leads me to believe that this is Theme3, whichever one that is.

Meghan Davis - I was wondering if you could tell me the name of the plugin used to enter your email address to subscribe. Does that send out an automatic email when you create new posts on the blog?

Also, for your photos that are two vertical ones next to each other, do you export your photos like that before uploading to WordPress, then use the ProPhoto upload tools to insert it in the post?

November 24, 2010 - 7:13 pm

jess@studio3z - Hi Meghan! The option to “subscribe by email” is something offered from ProPhoto blogs and is located in the back-end options. And yes, people that subscribe then receive our posts via email.

I create the double images in PS and then upload them to WordPress. Hope this helps!

john - hi, I am in the Uk and I just starting to work on my pro photo blog.

Do you mind if I ask you how you customised your menu so that you have the about page, and the portfolio pages. This might seem very basic and I’m sorry if it is, but I can’t seem to do it, and I really like the way your site works.
